Royal Ascot Tips – Tuesday
King Charles III Stakes (Group 1) – 3.45pm
The sprint division looks wide open at the moment and lacks superstars, with this year’s renewal a reflection of that. Big Evs hasn’t done much wrong so far and is well respected in this context, while Twilight Calls really caught the eye on his only start this year at Newmarket. Though, ASPHORA is set to take a big step forward from her run in the Temple Stakes, where she ran a huge race in defeat, just tired late and shaped like she could come up considerably for that race. Also, a switch to fast ground and Oisin Murphy taking over riding duties can only help her chances further; she can go close.
St James’s Palace Stakes (Group 1) – 4.25pm
A fantastic renewal of this race, and always fascinating with the winners from English, Irish and French Guinea all taking on each other. Remarkable number must be greatly respected as a winner of all four of his starts to date, but he was perhaps a little flattered from his back position ahead of too strong a gallop in the 2000 Guineas, while ROSALLION did a lot of work later in the race and traveled strongly into the race before fading late. This race could see them finish a lot closer, with Rosallion set to overturn the Newmarket placings. Alayanaabi can confirm the strength of the Newmarket form and complete the framework.
Ascot Stakes (handicap) – 17.05
Trainer Jarlath Fahey has only ever sent one horse over for Royal Ascot and walked away victorious with Jennie’s Jewel back in 2016. It is therefore remarkable that he is fielding one in the same race eight years later and having won 3 of his last 4 starts on the apartment, BOHER ROAD may not be done improving quite yet and he rates a leading player here in a race where chances can be created for many. Heading for the rest is Zanndabad, who ran an excellent race to finish 3rdrd in the Chester Cup and receives the services of Champion jockey William Buick.
Wolferton Stakes (Listed) – 5.40pm
As the market suggests, John and Thady Gosden hold a particularly strong hand here via the pair of Israr and TORITO, two high-class horses who could very well make their presence felt. Israr finished an excellent 2ndn.d to Passenger in the Huxley Stakes last month, form that could serve him well here on ground he should relish. However, Torito appears to have been unlucky the last two times, first when he endured a wide trip in last year’s Hampton Court Stakes and most recently when he won his ‘group’ by over 4 lengths in the Suffolk Stakes on 2000 Guineas day. There is more to come and he can show that here with a bold display.
Copper Horse Stakes (Handicap) – 6.15pm
EXTENDED may need some luck from his inside draw in stable 2, but he will look to cap off a good day for John and Thady Gosden’s training partnership with a big performance here. He ran well on his first attempt at 1m6f last time and is likely to have more to offer in a first time grind having only had the 8 career starts so far. Fox Journey was a wide margin winner at 1m4f from his only start this season and can enjoy the return to further; he can give the selection the most to think about.

Race to watch
As always there is no gradual build up to the best day, it’s bang, straight in, three Group Ones, the first day is for the racing fan. It’s been a while since that’s been the case but the St James’s Palace Stakes is as it should be, pitting Newmarket Guineas winner Notable Speech against French Guineas winner Metropolitan against the Irish, Rosallion, with a couple of other decent three-year-old colts thrown in for good. It’s winner takes all when it comes to reputation.

King Charles III Stakes (Group 1) – 3.45pm
This five-furlong dash will likely be over in the time it takes to pour a Pimms. If you were wondering what happened to the first day, the King’s Stand Stakes, here it is; renamed in honor of the current monarch. Ironically for one of the world’s iconic sprints, it only became a race in 1860 when its two-mile predecessor could not be run due to waterlogged ground and this was run over the only raceable ground. Sprinters tend to have their days because everything has to fall into place but we love it Stora Evs, who was fast enough at two to go to America and win the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf sprint in his backyard. Still looks fast.
St James’s Palace Stakes (Group 1) – 4.25pm
This should go a long way toward sorting out bragging rights for the best miler in this year’s Classic generation. Unlike the English, French and Irish Guineas, there is a sharp bend in the course here but it shouldn’t change much. Metropolitan probably wants juice, Rosallion did better in Ireland and is a great beast though Remarkable speech, who beat him at Newmarket, is unbeaten, looked a little green in the Rowley Mile and finished with pointed ears. He should go back in but will be priced accordingly.
